Born in Murano in the first half of the 17th century, Aurelio Aureli wrote about forty libretti for operas. He was a member of the Accademia degli Imperfetti, under the nickname “l'Indifferente”. His first success was Le fortune di Rodope e Damira, which was performed on music by Pietro Andrea Ziani (1657). In 1659, he left for Vienna for the premiere of La Virtù guerriera, performed for the birthday of Leopold I; he then came back to Venice. He collaborated with Filippo Acciaiuoli to create the opera for puppets Damira Placata. From 1688 to 1693, Aurelio was in the Duke of Parma’s service and worked for the Teatro Ducale.
