Antonio Gori (aka Goanto Rinio)
End of the 17th century – Middle of the 18th century
A contemporary of Goldoni, Antonio Gori worked as a librettist and a poet in the theatres of Venice. Some sources report that Gori met the young Goldoni, who has arguably found his calling as a writer thanks to his senior. Gori wrote the interlude Momoletta (1734), which combines baroque elements (such as cross-dressing) with domestic scenes heralding the theatrical productions of the end of the century. He wrote several plays for the Carnival of Venice; the first, Il Cajetto, was performed in 1746 at the Teatro San Girolamo, with puppets as the main actors.
