Giovanni Pino

19.. – 19..

Giovanni Pino was a Neapolitan guarattellaro. He began his career at the age of fourteen (probably in the 1930s), with his father Salvatore Pino. After the Second World War, he worked only on Sundays, to supplement his income as a garbage collector. On the other days of the week, he gave his puppets and puppet booth to his brother Giuseppe and to Nunzio Zampella, receiving a share of their takings. By 1975, he had stopped working because he had lost his teeth and he could no longer use the swazzle. In the 1980s, he was contacted by Bruno Leone and Salvatore Gatto, who were starting their career as guarattellari. Bruno Leone recorded shows and interviews with Pino.
