A German bookseller and publisher, Scheible was best known for his magazine Das Kloster [The Convent], published in Stuttgart between 1845 and 1850. He was interested in all forms of popular expression in the German-speaking world. Among the many sources he published on this occasion, there were several puppet plays based on the characters of Faust and Don Juan.
