Nino Pozzo (Matteo Pozzo)

1901 – 1983

Nino Pozzo was Verona's most important puppeteer of the 20th century. A pupil of Francesco Campogalliani, he mixed Emilian and Venetian traditions within his repertoire. He created his own company Teatro Mondo Piccino in 1923. At the beginning of his activity, he proposed a repertoire very close to Maestro Campogalliani's one with works dating back to the end of the 19th century, vaudeville and musical theatre that he performed with a little live orchestra. After the mid 1930s, his repertoire gradually shifted towards children's theatre, with a predominance of adaptations of fairy tales.
