Louis Poinsinet de Sivry was a French linguist, philologist, literary scholar, and playwright, a member of the Société royale des sciences et belles-lettres de Lorraine, and a translator of the comedies of Aristophanes and Pliny the Elder's Histoire naturelle. He wrote several works of theater, including the tragedies Ajax (1762), Briséïs ou la colère d'Achille (1763) and Caton d'Utique (1789), as well as the comedies Le Valet intrigant, Le Temps et la folie and Le Maître de guitare.
