Author
Claude Louis François Josserand (aka Louis Josserand père)
1796 – 1855
Louis Josserand père, also known as Louis Josserand 1st, was the son-in-law of Laurent Mourguet, creator of the Guignol character. In the first troupe that Mourguet formed, around 1820 in Lyon, it was he who held the puppet of Gnafron. When Laurent Mourguet's son, Étienne Mourguet, opened a permanent puppet theater in the Café du Caveau in 1838, Louis Josserand preferred to continue touring the region, going as far as Vienne or Saint-Étienne, as he did with his wife Rose-Pierrette who died in 1828. However, he returned to Lyon in 1850, first to perform at the Café du Caveau, then from 1852 onwards at the Théâtre Guignol in the rue Port-du-Temple, which he founded with his son Laurent, and Victor-Napoléon Vuillerme-Dunant.
