Note

This unknown author’s manuscript is included in the volume FF 9313 of the Soleinne collection, Bibliothèque nationale de France, Département des manuscrits. This short sung piece seems to have been intended for high-society performances. The reference to Lefranc de Pompignan's tragedy Didon, given at the Comédie-Française, as a "new play" explains why the text is dated back to 1734. Charles Magnin (Histoire des marionnettes en Europe, 1862, p. 165) suggests 1740 as the date of a revival.

Gaston Baty made a handwritten transcription of it, which is kept at the Institut International de la Marionnette (Temporal donation).

Abstract

A conversation about a recent show

Céliante and Dorimène ask the Marquis about the new plays. He tells them that the Chevalier and his niece Emilie, who are following him, have seen Didon. The Chevalier, Emilie and Céliante recount the play in song.
