Entre Chien et Loup (a colourful expression in French that means at dusk, at twilight) was not originally written for puppet theatre. When the puppeteer François Lazaro, who had found 'puppet-like' elements in the text, asked Daniel Lemahieu for the rights to stage it with puppets, the author was recalcitrant, although he granted them. The play was therefore first staged in its original version (1994).After seeing the show, the author was astonished by the possibilities opened up by the puppet, and decided to rework the text into a second version, which he found "more effective than the one in the edition". The later version contains some changes from the published version in all three parts that make up the text. This new version, which has not been published, was staged by Lazaro in 1997 (the modified text is in the archives of the Clastic Théâtre, which François Lazaro gave to the BNF).Following this experience, Daniel Lemahieu continued to collaborate with François Lazaro on several other creations.

H. and F., an old working-class couple, dwell on their past while waiting to die in a hospice. Their dialogue develops in a suspended time and a dark atmosphere. Between recriminations, sadness and bitter memories, time is filled only with their quarrels and the few repetitive actions they perform every day in their room. Pierrot, their only son, who has not visited them for a long time, is a constant presence-absence in their daily life, one of their main sources of discussion.
